Leading the Way in Sustainable Veterinary Imaging

At ACES, we believe that exceptional patient care and environmental responsibility should go hand in hand. As part of our commitment to innovation, we are proud to be the first veterinary hospital in Western Australia to install the Siemens MAGNETOM Flow.Ace™ 1.5 Tesla MRI system.

ACES Introduces Western Australia's First Siemens MAGNETOM Flow. Ace MRI

This next-generation MRI represents a significant advancement in veterinary diagnostic imaging, combining outstanding image quality with groundbreaking sustainability. It reflects our vision of building a hospital that not only delivers world-class specialist care but also embraces technologies that reduce our environmental footprint.

What is an MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most advanced diagnostic tools available in veterinary medicine. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI uses powerful magnetic fields and radiofrequency waves to produce highly detailed images of the body’s soft tissues without exposing patients to ionising radiation.

MRI is particularly valuable for investigating conditions affecting the:

  • Brain and spinal cord
  • Intervertebral disc disease

  • Neurological disorders
  • Muscles, tendons and ligaments
  • Joints
  • Certain cancers and soft tissue masses

The exceptional level of anatomical detail provided by MRI allows specialists to diagnose complex conditions with greater confidence and develop the most appropriate treatment plan for each patient.

Why the Siemens MAGNETOM Flow.Ace?

The MAGNETOM Flow.Ace is Siemens Healthineers’ latest generation 1.5 Tesla MRI platform, designed to deliver exceptional diagnostic performance while dramatically reducing its environmental impact. One of its most innovative features is its low-helium magnet technology.

Traditional MRI systems require approximately 1,000 to 1,500 litres of liquid helium to cool the superconducting magnet. Helium is a finite natural resource that is increasingly scarce worldwide.

The MAGNETOM Flow.Ace requires only around 0.7 litres of liquid helium, permanently sealed within the magnet. This revolutionary design virtually eliminates the need for helium refills during the scanner’s lifetime while significantly reducing reliance on one of the world’s most limited natural resources.

By dramatically reducing helium consumption without compromising image quality, this technology represents an important step towards more sustainable veterinary healthcare.

Advanced Imaging with a Smaller Environmental Footprint

Sustainability has been an important consideration throughout the design of ACES. In addition to investing in low-helium MRI technology, our hospital has been designed with renewable energy infrastructure, including an extensive solar panel system and on-site battery storage. Together, these systems generate and store a substantial proportion of our energy requirements, reducing our reliance on the electricity grid and helping minimise our environmental impact. By combining advanced medical technology with renewable energy, ACES is proud to be setting a new benchmark for sustainable specialist veterinary practice in Western Australia.

What This Means for Our Patients

While the environmental benefits are significant, our investment has always been driven by one priority: providing the very best care for our patients.

Our MRI system delivers:

  • High-quality diagnostic images for complex neurological, orthopaedic and soft tissue conditions
  • Faster, more efficient imaging workflows
  • Improved diagnostic confidence for specialist clinicians
  • Access to world-class imaging technology close to home for Western Australian pets and their families
For pet owners, this means earlier diagnosis, more informed treatment decisions, and the reassurance that their pet is being cared for using some of the most advanced imaging technology available in veterinary medicine.

Innovation with Purpose

At ACES, innovation is not simply about acquiring the latest technology—it is about investing in solutions that improve patient care while contributing to a more sustainable future.

By becoming the first veterinary hospital in Western Australia to introduce the Siemens MAGNETOM Flow.Ace MRI, alongside our investment in renewable energy infrastructure, we are proud to be helping shape the future of specialist veterinary medicine.

We believe exceptional healthcare should be forward-thinking in every sense—delivering outstanding outcomes for our patients today while caring for the world they will live in tomorrow.
